There are different reasons why a person wants or needs a toilet installation, and whatever the reasons, consider the following.
Measurements
Measure the distance from the wall to the bolts that hold the toilet to the floor. Usually this measurement is about 12 inches, which is the standard. If it is more, or less, you might need a special order toilet.
Toilet Bolts
The solid brass bolts are the best because they resists corrosion.
Placing the Wax Ring Seal
Place the wax ring seal on the floor.
Placing the Toilet
Place the toilet on the floor and onto the bolts gently so the bolts do not slip or tip in the process. This is probably the most complex action in the process of toilet installation as it requires the installer to be precise, so to not crush or move the wax ring.
Align and Secure the Toilet
A toilet placed on an uneven floor will move, damage the wax ring seal, and leak. If after placing the toilet and gently tightening the nuts there is a large gap between the floor and the toilet, use plastic shims.
Test Your Work
Connect the water line and hand tight the connectors, so you do not break them. Turn on the valve, fill the toilet tank, flush, and make sure there are no leaks. Repeat 2-3 times to make sure there are no leak.
Finish the Installation
Tighten the toilet nuts (make sure the bolts for tight), cut off the excess bolts, cut off the shims, and caulk the area between the floor and the toilet.
You are all done now.
NOTE: If, and when you do it yourself, consult with the manual / user guide that came with the toilet first.
